Chapter 11. Batch processing

After a long meeting, you may have a large number of whiteboard images on your digital camera. Processing each individual image one by one can be tedious and time consuming. The Batch processing feature can help you to automate this process.

Before proceeding, make sure you have enough memory (RAM) in your computer for batch processing and you have allocated enough memory to ClearBoard. We recommend that you have at at least 256 Mb of RAM to perform batch processing of 2 Megapixel images. Having additional memory will improve the perfromance of Clearboard. You also need to allocate enough memory to ClearBoard.

If you follow the following steps, you only need to spend a little time with your computer and ClearBoard will do most of the work for you.

  1. Download your images from your camera to a folder. Consult your your digital camera manual for details on how to download images.

  2. Start ClearBoard and ensure that ClearBoard is working on the right board type. To change board type, simply click on the "board bar" found at the right lower corner of the main ClearBoard window.

If you have images for different types of boards, process them in different batches.

  3. Select "Batch processing" from the File menu. The "Batch processing" wizard pops up.

  4. From Step 1 of the "Batch processing" wizard, select images that you wish to process. The dialog window in this step is similar to normal file chooser. Once you have selected some image files, just click the "Select" button. The selected images will appear in the "Selected image" box on the right side. If you wish to cancel your selection, select images from the box, and press the "Cancel" button.

Once you are satisfied with your selection, click "Next" button.

  5. You are now at the Step 2 of the "Batch processing" wizard. Images to be processed and their status are shown in the table of the wizard. You may double-click an image or click the "Display" button to display it.

You can decide when you want ClearBoard to stop by clicking on the pull-down button "Stop after". You have the following choices: (1) Boarder detection. ClearBoard stops after detecting boarders of your board. (2) Cleaning. ClearBoard stops after border detection, and cleaning your board images. (3) Saving. ClearBoard stops after doing all of above plus saving cleaned images back. The default setting is (2). You may undo the cleaning from (2) to (1) but not from (3) to (1). We therefore suggest you always choose (1) or (2) and only select (3) after you have reviewed the results.

Now, select (1) Boarder detection and click the "Start" button. The progress bar following the "Start" button starts moving. When it stops, borders of all images have been detected. Double-click on any one of the images, a navigation window pops up. This window appears very similar to normal ClearBoard window except with two additional navigation buttons, previous and next. Click on one of them to navigate through all images. You may adjust the boarder selection if you are not satisfied about ClearBoard's detection.

It is time to select (2) Cleaning and click the "Start" button. Once ClearBoard is finished, you may navigate through cleaned images to inspect the results. If you are not happy about the results, you may undo cleaning for each image individually by click the "Undo" button in the navigation window. You may also undo cleaning for all images by selecting (1) Boarder detection and click "Start" button.

When you are happy about the cleaning results, select (3) saving and click "Start" button. All images will be saved.
